Welcome to Uruguay!

Our South American adventure began with a great start. After saying our goodbyes in San Jose, we boarded an on-time, quick flight to Houston. During our three-hour layover there, many Bells took the opportunity to find dinner at the airport and stretch their legs before boarding our flight to Buenos Aires. Accordingly, at 9:30 PM, our United flight took off for South America.
Our flight landed in Buenos Aires at just past 9:00 AM local time. Luckily, going through Customs was fast and seamless, and a chartered bus picked us up from the airport at noon and drove us to the Buenos Aires city center.
Because our ferry for Montevideo was not scheduled to leave until 3:00 PM, many Bells took this free afternoon as an opportunity to explore Buenos Aires' beautiful streets, visit its churches, and sample delicious local cuisine like empanadas. After a fun afternoon, we boarded the Buquebus ferry that took us to Montevideo.
Our guide in Montevideo picked us up from the waterfront and took us to the Jesuit retreat center, our lodging in Montevideo. At 8:00 PM, we enjoyed a meal prepared for us by the nuns who work in the center. Our day ended with a final reflection that served as a chance to think about our journey thus far. We look forward to many good days in Uruguay and Argentina still yet to come.
